Hotel Centro was around the corner from the Galleria dell'Accademia, which houses the marble version of
David. We decided we'd beat the rush by arriving shortly after it opened. The timing was perfect. We queued up and entered the museum in less than ten minutes. I wish Steve could've taken pictures inside, but even they wouldn't have done the statue justice. It is breathtaking. The detail is exquisite, and there's something about the smoothness and sheen of the marble that makes the statue so much more impressive than Michelangelo's bronze and stone replicas scattered around Florence.
After we'd feasted our eyes, we headed to Il Duomo. I walked around and window shopped a bit while Steve paid to ascend the tower to take some pictures.

This is a mosaic. Can you imagine? |
Afterward, we strolled through the streets as we headed to Ponte Vecchio, the bridge filled with jewelry shops. Along the way, we stopped at a handbag shop where Steve bought me a new black purse and peeked into a shop where an artist was hard at work.
