Our trip to Italy was rather different from our previous trips because it came up so quickly. There wasn't a year's worth of planning involved. This was, "We're going to Italy in a few weeks!" When one of Steve's producers told him about the job opportunity in Rome, we decided I would join him after his shoot ended if I could use my three personal days and make a long weekend of it. Italy wasn't on our list of next places to visit, but really, who's going to turn down a trip to Italy when given the chance? Steve and I had both been to Ventimiglia, Italy as part of our (separate) trips to Monaco before we started dating, but a few hours in a market isn't quite enough to have the bragging rights of having traveled in Italy.
In typical Buckwalter travel fashion, as soon as we started thinking about visiting Rome, I started thinking about what other sites we could squeeze in while we were in the area. After all, we are the couple who took a road trip from Strasbourg, France to Salzburg, Austria and back again in a day just because..., well, why not? We're the king and queen of squeezing as much as possible into a trip. Florence and Pisa seemed like the natural choice.
